Food Events and Panels Headline Texas Book Festival

(AUSTIN, TX) - The Texas Book Festival has elvolved into one of the finest of its kind in the country. This year's seventh annual festival continues its tradition of bringing wonderful chefs and cookbook authors to Austin. Many novice, experienced cooks or foodophiles will not want to miss any of the activities scheduled. The following events will feature chefs, cookbook authors, and food critics at the Festival, November 14-17.

The following panels will take place November 16-17 at the State Capitol:

Saturday, November 16

  • Savory Grace: The Art of Food Writing
    with food writers Jim Harrison (Off to the Side: A Memoir) and Lucian K. Truscott IV (Full Dress Gray), moderated by Saveur editor Colman Andrews.
Sunday, November 17
  • What's Cooking in Texas?
    with Bill Cauble & Cliff Teinert (Barbecue, Biscuits, & Beans), Terry Thompson-Anderson (Texas on the Plate), Diana Barrios Trevio (Los Barrios Family Cookbook) and Robb Walsh (Legends of Texas Barbecue), moderated by Cathy Cochran-Lewis.

A Tasting Event with Lidia Bastianich, Rick Bayless, & Diana Barrios Treviño
At the home of Deborah & Tom Green of Austin * 7 pm * $150 per person

Some of the top chefs in Texas will prepare recipes by the Festival's featured cookbook authors as well as their own signature dishes. The Festival's featured cookbook authors will also be on hand to sign their books and visit with guests.

The proceeds from all book sales at these events will benefit the Texas Book Festival's fund for public libraries. Since 1996, the Festival has awarded more than $1.35 million in grants to 441 public libraries across Texas. More than 20,000 people attended the Festival in 2001.

The Festival underwriter is AT&T. Other major sponsors include Bank of America, Barnes & Noble, The Hewlett Packard Company/ Microsoft, Susan Vaughan Foundation, Target Stores and Mervyn's, T.L.L. Temple Foundation, and Workplace USA.
